Waterproofing
Share
Hot applied asphalt mix, based on bitumen modified with elastomers. It adheres completely to the structure to be waterproofed. It makes cracks watertight and prevents their subsequent evolution, degradation and transmission to different layers. Provides exceptional performance throughout the life of the building. Suitable for single or multi-layer waterproofing systems bonded with hot asphalt.

Scope

  • Preparation and regularisation of substrates or old waterproofing.
  • It is used as a bonding material for asphalt sheets for roof waterproofing.

Advantages & Benefits

  • Good adhesion to concrete.
  • Easy hot application.
  • Not flammable.
  • Allows for adaptation to any type of geometry.
  • Non-toxic product.
  • Waterproof.

Instruction for Use

First of all, the modified bitumen tablets are melted in a boiler. The melting temperature suitable for pouring the modified bitumen is between 160° and 200°C, making sure that the temperature never exceeds 200°C to avoid sedimentation. The boiler must always be charged during the pouring process. Once the application is finished, the remaining product must be removed and the melter must be left clean for the next use. The boiler should not be located far from the working area as the modified bitumen must flow smoothly into the paving area.
The modified bitumen melt is collected for transport in metal containers and poured onto the substrate perpendicular to the slope and across the full width of the roll, with a minimum layer mass of 1.5 kg/m2. The sheet, which shall have a non-stick sand finish, is unrolled while pressing the surface of the sheet until the modified bitumen protrudes from the edges and from the front. In the case of self-protected sheets, these can be applied either immediately after the modified bitumen has been spread or when the modified bitumen is already spread and cold. In the latter case, for which plastic release films can be used, the film must be applied by fully welding it to the modified bitumen layer with a blowtorch. In both cases the overlaps must be welded together.

Indications and Important Recommendations

  • It is essential that users verify the suitability of the product for their materials and application methods.
  • Avoid contact of water with the molten product.
  • Modified Bitumen Pellets are handled at high temperatures, which requires every precaution when laying.
  • Possible incompatibility between thermal insulation and waterproofing shall be checked.
  • NOTE: For more information on the Danosa systems in which this product is used, please see the document "Waterproofing Solutions".

Handling, storage and preservation

  • The product will be used on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • This product in solid state is neither toxic nor flammable.
  • Modified bitumen Tablets are classified as NON-HAZARDOUS products according to EU criteria.
  • The tablets must be stored in a dry place protected from rain, sun, heat and low temperatures.
  • Cleaning: Allow to cool and collect mechanically.
  • Waterproofing work must not be carried out when weather conditions may be detrimental, in particular when it is snowing or there is snow or ice on the roof, when it is raining or the roof is wet, surface dampness >8% according to NTE QAT, or when a strong wind is blowing.
  • In all cases, the Occupational Safety and Hygiene standards, as well as the standards of good construction practice, must be taken into account.
