DANOSA BITUMEN PRIMER+ SA is a fast-drying synthetic rubber-based primer, developed for securely bonding both self-adhesive bituminous air and vapour control layers (AVCL’s) and thermo-adhered (thermo-fused) bituminous membranes to the substrate, DANOSA UK BITUMEN PRIMER+ SA is a roller-applied mixture of cold-applied synthetic rubbers. It acts as an ‘activator’ to ensure excellent adhesion between the roof deck and self-adhesive membrane.

- The substrate must be solid, presented with a suitable surface condition prior to work commencing and able to resist all dead and imposed loadings. Adhesion tests should be carried out prior to use. BITUMEN PRIMER+ SA should only be used for the substrates listed with self-adhesive membranes. All other substrates and membranes should be discussed further with the DANOSA UK technical team and tested prior to use.
Instruction for Use
The instructions for application below are for guidance only. Please always refer to any project-specific DANOSA UK recommendations. Adhesion tests should be carried out ideally a minimum of 48-hours prior to the general installation works commencing.
• Ensure that all surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry and free from contamination. Note that profiled metal deck surfaces should be wiped clear of manufacturing oils with a dry, lint-free cloth. Persistent oils might be broken up with white spirit but guidance should be sought from the profiled deck manufacturer in this event.
• Ensure that there are no fixings protruding from the deck surface.
• The primer is supplied ready to use. Apply using a lambs-wool, solvent compatible roller or a synthetic or natural bristle paint brush which is compatible with solvent adhesives, ensuring an even coat with no excessive pooling.
• Allow the primer to dry for 15-minutes before applying the self-adhered AVCL. Drying times will vary with the ambient temperature.
• As soon as the primer is dry, apply the AVCL as per DANOSA UK specifications and product datasheet recommendations.
• Two coats of primer may be required on more porous substrates.
• Drying times may vary depending on ambient temperature, coating thickness and porosity of the substrates. Bitumen Primer+ SA can be used for up to 4 hours after application (at 20°C ambient temperature). If this time is exceeded, recoat the substrate.

Handling, storage and preservation
- This product should be stored unopened in dry conditions, out of direct sunlight, at an ambient temperature of 5°C to 25°C. This will ensure that the stated shelf-life is achieved. Once opened, the products shelf-life will reduce.
